Port Nicholson Block Settlement Trust

We have included here a transcript of the 1839 Deed of Purchase. This is the document that the Waitangi Tribunal found to be invalid and is one of the major reasons the Wai 54 claim was lodged in 1987. 1839 Deed of Purchase.pdf

In total there were 11 Taranaki Whanui ki Te Upoko o Te Ika claims made to the Waitangi Tribunal that related to the Port Nicholson block. All of these claims have been settled under the banner of the Port Nicholson Block Settlement Trust.

The Port Nicholson Block rohe covers Wellington City, Hutt City and Upper Hutt City. It is also within the boundaries of the Greater Wellington Regional Council
